Poems by Carl Sandburg (1878 - 1967)

Carl Sandburg was born in Galesburg, Illinois. Much of his poetry focused on the prairies of the West and on Chicago, Illinois, where he lived and worked as a journalist. He was also, at different times, a bricklayer, farm hand, coal-heaver, political secretary and soldier, fighting in the Mexican-American War and the invasion of Puerto Rico in 1898. He won two Pulitzer prizes.
