Midsummer, Tobago

Derek Walcott

Broad sun-stoned beaches

Full Poem in Copyright

Derek Walcott was born in St Lucia, but has lived for many years in Trinidad.

Tobago is the neighbouring island to Trinidad, and the minor partner in the country Trinidad and Tobago. While Trinidad has the major city, the oil, most of the people and the problems, Tobago is more the idyllic, laid-back Caribbean isle with an economy dominated by tourism.

Derek Walcott won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1992.
