Poems by Derek Walcott (1930-)
Derek Walcott was born in Castries, St Lucia. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1992. Apart from his poetry he has written many essays and over 20 plays. For many years he has lived between Trinidad and the USA, where he taught Literature and Creative Writing at Boston University until his retirement in 2007. Derek Walcott has travelled extensively and much of his poetry reflects the importance of place, geographically and culturally.
