Poems by Ezra Pound (1885 - 1972)

Ezra Pound was an American poet. He was born in the Idaho Territory and grew up mainly in Pennsylvania. He travelled widely from an early age and in 1908 he moved to London where he would live for 12 years. He also lived in Paris from 1921-1924 and then in Italy until the end of World War II. He was a founder of the imagist movement in poetry and was friends with many writers such as Ford Madox Ford and Robert Frost. He was an influence on many literary greats, including TS Eliot, Ernest Hemingway and James Joyce. In later life he exhibited many signs of mental instability along with anti-semitic and fascist tendencies. From 1945-58 he was kept in St Elizabeth's Mental Hospital in Washington DC. He lived the last years of his life in Italy and died in Venice.
