Poems by Thomas Pringle (1789 - 1834)

Thomas Pringle was born in Kelso in Scotland. He studied at Edinburgh University. A writer, he went to South Africa as one of the 1820 settlers and founded newspapers there. He returned to Scotland and became active in the cause of abolition of slavery. After his death, his body was taken to South Africa for burial. He is known as the father of South African poetry.
