Poems by John Leyden (1775 - 1811)

John Leyden was born at Denholm in Scotland. He was a poet and an orientalist. He studied at Edinburgh University and was destined for the priesthood, but gave it up. He learned Arabic and Persian and travelled to India and the Dutch East Indies. Unfortunately he died there of fever.
