George Gordon, Lord Byron was said by Lady Caroline Lamb to be "mad, bad and dangerous to know". The archetypal romantic poet, Byron was an adventurer, soldier, dilettante and scandalous lover. He was involved in Italian revolutionary agitation against Austrian rule. He died in Greece where he had gone to fight in the revolt against Turkish rule.
