IN THE CHURCH OF WESTERHAM IN KENT.
James,
Son of colonel Edward Wolfe, and
Henrietta his wife,
Was born in this parish, January 2, 1727.
And died in America, Sep. 13, 1759.
Conqueror of Quebec.
While George, in sorrow, bows his laurell'd head,
And bids the artist grace the soldier dead;
We raise no sculptur'd trophy to thy name,
Brave youth! the fairest in the lists of fame:
Proud of thy birth, we boast th' auspicious year;
Struck with thy fall, we shed the general tear;
With humble grief inscribe one artless stone,
And from thy matchless honours date our own.
Poetry Atlas has many poems about Quebec, including some about Wolfe's victory there on the Plains of Abraham.
Poetry Atlas also has many other poems about Kent.
