Pop Goes the Weasel

Anonymous

Half a pound of tuppenny rice,
Half a pound of treacle.
That's the way the money goes,
Pop! goes the weasel.

Up and down the City road,
In and out the Eagle,
That's the way the money goes,
Pop goes the weasel.

This traditional nursery rhyme refers to people spending all their money in the establishments north of the City like the Eagle pub.

Poetry Atlas has many poems by anonymous. And, of course, hundreds of famous poems about London.
