Welcome to the home of high fashion,
Königsallee (Kö for short)
expensive shops, luxury boutiques,
a Neoclassical hunting palace
gardens laid out in the English style,
the oldest German museum
devoted to ceramics
and at 12-14 Bilker Street,
an institute preserving the legacy
of the poet Heinrich Heine.

Already we are in ‘overload’
-it’s another German metropolis
with too much to take in –
so we sit inside the Pfarrkirche
lose ourselves in the high-roofed
white interior,
grateful for space in which to breathe,
to sit and simply be.

The Neoclassical hunting palace is the Schloss Jägerhof. It is now the Goethe Museum.

Poetry Atlas has many other poems about Germany.
