Beside the Pearl River in Guangzhou, China,
in a hotel with a waterfall in the lobby,
the White Swan, my daughter sleeps between
us in a bed large enough for twenty daughters.
My heart is busy with many feelings,
but in my mind there are two thoughts and
then only one thought: how the waterfall
and the river are like father and daughter:
how a father of one daughter is no less
a father than a father of twenty.
