Peckhamist

Yasemin Balandi

In this fair vale of Peckham;
A rill ebbs and flows;
Sometimes crystalline
And sometimes murky!

In this fair vale of Peckham
Daddies in Bermuda shorts
Cradle their babes in
Bjorns!
In this fair vale of Peckham
Mummies are yummy
And their tummies are not so flabby!

In this fair vale of Peckham;
The lido is but a ghost;
Convening with the ghosts of sheep
Once grazed on clover and rye
At Peckham Rye!

In this fair vale of Peckham;
Us ladies picnic
In our bikinis
On the barren site of the lido
Resurrecting
Its spirit!

In this fair vale of Peckham;
A mulberry tree sings
Merry tunes
For her fruits of labour
Sweet!
In this fair vale of Peckham;
All clovers have four leaves
And forget- me- nots are plentiful.

In this fair vale of Peckham;
Honeybees are merry
As the pollen are omniscient.

The disused Lido buried under Peckham Rye will soon be resurrecgted as an Olympic-sized swimming pool. the project raised its money in 2016 via a crowdfunding website.
