Sean Bell

Now inhabited by three young kids.
Surrounded by the silence of serenity.
Journeying back to our own homes,
Through the creepy, but peaceful dead of night.
Following a long, fun, yet tiresome, day.
Crickets and conversations,
The only noise to be heard.
And as far as sight went,
There wasn’t much to see
With weary eyes acting as our guides.
Even though we resided in a relatively safe area,
We didn’t succumb to being naive,
Making sure there was no danger to be found.
This mindset made our souls rocket from our bodies
When were greeted by the sounds of angry dogs
Barking.
We took off, speeding up and down hilly roads,
Trying to make it home.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure if it were my legs
Or my heart that was racing faster!
Nearing the driveway of one of our homes,
We noticed the barking die down,
As if the dogs were getting tired themselves.
Looking back in the direction we came from,
We realized the dogs were enclosed by fences,
Not posing any real threat to us the whole time.
Crickets were still present in the soundscape of the night,
But conversation, however,
Was soon swapped out for laughter after the chase.
