Kenya October 2008
are cratered causeways
crevassed dry stream beds
boulder strewn
bump-ways
we unlucky riders
crush together
on this bone
bottoming-out
jar-way
as we bounce
along the ouch-way
wondering why – this way!
self-appointed
road fixers hold out
their calloused hands
begging shillings
our driver says: ‘we give
you on the way back.”
we swerve
around miniature canyons
causing us to take
off-the-road way
smoother by far
than the on-road way
as we continue on
our rock-and-roll-way
roots and stumps
lumps and bumps
wet mud slide-ways
when we’re finally home –
we offer up praise!
