It is hard to know where the light falls from
when it is everywhere. Light is the sea.
In my mind I filled a bowl with the sun
and waves like a heartbeat against the stones.
Now before me the sea is like a mind
of endless thoughts and equivocal love.
I can add nothing to it. I can give
nothing. The unwanting waves are beating
and my hands are empty but I am full
of solace that only the ocean brings.
