Bowen Beach

David Cookson

Their silence
more a pact
than homage
to dawn,
woman and man
drift north
at ocean edge
past dunes’ white hips,
pandanus –
diminish to blur
with the mirage
before they fade
into horizon’s gauze –
do not return

subtle as dusk
the sea eases away
their footprints
and forgets

Author's Note: Bowen Beach’ is in Queensland about 3,000kms north of Adelaide. A town of about 9,000 people and quite tropical. Sleepy, typical "She'll be right" attitude of Queensland.

Poetry Atlas has other poems about Queensland.
