Their silence
more a pact
than homage
to dawn,
woman and man
drift north
at ocean edge
past dunes white hips,
pandanus
diminish to blur
with the mirage
before they fade
into horizons gauze
do not return
subtle as dusk
the sea eases away
their footprints
and forgets
Author's Note: Bowen Beach is in Queensland about 3,000kms north of Adelaide. A town of about 9,000 people and quite tropical. Sleepy, typical "She'll be right" attitude of Queensland.
Poetry Atlas has other poems about Queensland.
