It wasn't an airship,
or a German zeppelin.
It wasn't a spaceship
with little green men
('Greys' they call them
Nowadays)
It wasn't Superwoman,
Piefaceman
or Superclog.
It wasn't an angel.
It wasn't God.
Across the sky
flaring yellow and blue
it flew on
then ignited
though it wasn't a bomb
Arriving when it did
like a harbinger of war
on the field
at Appley Bridge
a meteor.
