Horsey Gap

Anonymous

When the sea comes in at Horsey Gap
Without any previous warning,
A swan shall build its rushy nest
On the roof of the Swan at Horning.
And a bald headed crow, contented and merry,
Shall feast on the corpses that float by the ferry.

Horsey Gap is a vulnerable portion of the barrier of dunes on the Norfolk Coast. If the sea breaches this barrier, wide areas of low-lying land and the waterways of the Norfolk Broads can be flooded by sea water. This last happened in 1953.
