Poems by Wallace Stevens (1879 - 1955)

Wallace Stevens was born in Reading Pennsylvania and studied at Harvard Unveristy. He spent most of his life in Hartford Connecticut. He worked for a short while as a journalist and for many years as manager of an insurance company in Hartford. Most of his best poetry was written late in his life. He won the Naional Book Award for poetry twice, and in 1955, the Pulitzer Prize. He is also known for his notorious brawl with Ernest Hemingway in Key West, during which Stevens broke his hand on Hemingway's jaw.
