Poems by Herman Melville (1819 - 1891)

Herman Melville was born in New York and in his early life, travelled widely, including a visit to England and, beginning in 1841, a three-year voyage to the Pacific Ocean. "My life began that day", Melville later said of the day he set sail in 1841 on the whaler Acushnet. His most famous work is the novel Moby Dick, set in the world of whaling.
