Poems by Elizabeth Bishop (8 February 1911 - 6 October 1979)

Elizabeth Bishop was an American poet. She grew up in Worcester, Massachussetts and Nova Scotia. She studied at Vassar College, planning to become a composer. She was a close friend of the great poet, Robert Lowell and travelled widely, living in France, Key West and for a long time, in Brazil. She was the United States poet laureate from 1949 to 1950, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1956, and was also a National Book Award winner in 1970. Geography and Landscape are very prominent in her poetry. She wrote poems about New England and Nova Scotia, as well as poems about Brazil.
