Poems by Sarah Josepha Hale (1788 - 1879)

Sarah Hale was born in Newport, New Hampshire. Her best-known lyric is the nursery rhyme, "Mary had a Little Lamb", but she was writer of many other poems. She was also a successful editor of women's magazines and ran Godey's Lady's Book well into her nineties. Amongst other things, she campaigned to create the Thanksgiving holiday in the USA. She died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
