Born in Edinburgh, Sir Walter Scott contracted polio at a young age and travelled to different locations, including Bath, looking for a cure. He was a great and prolific historical novelist but also wrote some fine poetry, mostly romantic ballads. He is buried in Dryburgh Abbey.
