Poems by Henry Louis Vivian Derozio (1809 - 1831)

Henry Derozio was a Bengali poet who wrote Indian patriotic, anti-imperialist poetry. His ancestry was part Portugese and his mother was English, but he appears to have felt wholly Indian. Despite being Anglo-Indian, he was passionately opposed to British rule in India and his poetry was an inspiration to Indian nationalists. Henry Derozio was an atheist, and after his death his body was buried in the road after he was barred from burial in the Christian cemetery. Derozio wrote his poetry in English.
