Poems by Charles Harpur (1813 - 1868)

One of Australia's earlies poets, Charles Harpur was from Windsor in New South Wales. Both his parents were convicts. He is now known as the forefather of Australian poetry and his work is getting more recognition. He owned a frontier farm called Euroma near the Tuross river in the Eurobodalla district. This farm was devastated by floods in 1867. This disaster, along with the death of his son, contributed to weakening his health and he died in Araluen of consumption not long afterwards.
